Michael Jackson Merces sells 63Thousand Dollars

A black Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL previously owned by Michael Jackson has sold for £63,000.

The Merc 500 SEL – first bought by Jackson at the height of his fame in 1985 – sold at an exclusive auction held in New York City by Julien’s Auctions.

It was one of a number of items of Jackson memorabilia auctioned off on Saturday, including his famous diamond studded white glove worn in 1983 which sold for an astonishing £250,000.

Michael Jackson purchased the Mercedes for “use at the Neverland estate” – a sprawling development in Southern California spanning 2,600 acres, which was his home from the 1980s through to 2005.

Jackson later gifted his Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL to his aunt for her birthday, and comes equipped with a 5-litre V8 engine producing 302bhp together with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The long-wheelbase model also features automatic temperature control, heated mirrors, outside temperature sensor, front and back heated, electrically powered black leather seats, a “premium” sound system, burr walnut trim and ABS.

The £63k sale prices shows Jacksons star value; a typical 500 SEL is worth less than £3,000.

Earlier this year Julien’s Auctions were selected to auction off Michael Jackson’s private property from his Neverland ranch, including a 500bhp tour bus, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a couple of customised Rolls-Royce limousines and a GMC truck.

Sadly, the 50 year-old musician – whose 1983 Thriller album still holds the record for the biggest selling album in history – passed away before his sell-out 50-date concert stay at London’s O2 venue from heart problems. The investigation into his death is ongoing. Co Autotrader
